Farrowing Manager

Purpose & Scope:  Perform routine manual and detailed clerical work involved with Pre Farrowing and Post Farrowing proper management of all sows, storing leadership skills.  Will need to schedule employee’s time off around work load of batch farrowing. Must be able to handle administrative work, such as ESI, employee time cards, disciplinary actions, employee evaluations, safety training audits, hand held recording records.

Principle Responsibilities:   Functions may include but are not limited to:

  • Assist all Farrowing Rooms, make sure every sow get pigs farrowed out and is provide the most productive and healthy start to lactation

  • Provide coaching and Farrowing sow and pigs care guidelines to the coordinators team along with your team

  • Coach, teach, have strong employee engagement with employees at all levels

  • Understand and know proper Microenvironment / ventilation for pigs and sow

  • Sow care pre farrows and post farrow for maximum lactation feed intake

  • Understanding multiple types of fostering of piglets

Required Qualifications:

  • At minimum of 5 year, hog farm experience in Farrowing

Position Purpose

The First Line Production Supervisor I is responsible for day-to-day management of operations of the facility. The position is responsible for transforming departmental goals into measurable results. This includes supporting the team structure through leadership of department non-exempt personnel; supporting safety, food safety, environmental, and quality requirements; managing costs of operations. This position works closely with all areas of the facility in supporting projects, including Process Development Groups (PDG), and Continuous Improvement (CI) operational improvement opportunities.

Principal Accountabilities

  • 40% Development and supervision of direct and indirect reports (coaching, Performance Management Plans (PMP's)). Work with peers at location in establishing consistent personnel policies. Lead department and area in a manner that results in an engaged and safe environment. Provide leadership, organization, and communication to the department; ensure structure, training, and a team that operates as a high performance work team.
  • 30% Key member of the department leadership team. Will develop deep technical knowledge of the department. Assist in project selection and implementation including assisting other members to accomplish the goals of the department to align with the site business plan. Develop plans for continuous improvement of the department including actions and driving accountability.
  • 25% Focus will be on creating a zero injury culture, food safety, environmental compliance, and reliability.

Title of Supervisor: Farm Service Manager or General Manager

Purpose & Scope:  Responsible for the grow/finish animals as replacement gilts for the sow farms.                                                                                                                       

Principle Responsibilities:   40%-manage all activities/processes related to farm management. Schedule and perform according to JBS standard operating procedures and policies.  Manage the financial performance by controlling cost, maximizing throughput and avoiding waste. 
•    30%-Ensure that farms have strong leadership. Ensure farm staff is properly trained, developed, challenged and counseled when necessary.  Provide information, training and resources to allow all staff to perform their duties legally and according established Best Management Practices and meet expected production, environmental, animal welfare, and heard health and safety requirements.  

•    15%-Ensure that records and inventories are maintained and reported on a timely basis. 
•    5%-Work with Human Resources to manage: hiring process: employee relationships: employee discipline; and communicate changes in farm staff.
•    5%-Work with EHS manager to properly train and audit the farms to ensure the buildings, equipment, machinery; and processes are safe and operating in accordance with JBS safety guidelines.
•    5%-Monitor the appearance of buildings and grounds are neat, clean and orderly at all times.

Ensure the timely and accurate flow of information to the plant staff and customer service by maintaining files and entering results into data base. Water Distribution Manager

Larsen Farms is currently looking for a qualified individual to manage our water distribution throughout a 45,000 acre irrigated farm. We have a large, privately owned farm with over 400 employees and can’t wait to add one more. Basic job duties would include communicating with other departments about daily water needs, monitoring water usage and operation, and making sure we stay compliant with state/ federal water regulations.

Applicant will need to be comfortable using a computer and basic Microsoft programs, have good communications skills, and have previous experience with underground water distribution. Must be fluent in English but bilingual in Spanish is preferred.

Daily work would consist of:
• Communicating with other departments about daily water needs
• Collecting information and preparing daily/weekly/monthly reports 
• Monitor water usage and operations to ensure water application and wells are in compliance with all applicable state and federal regulations and permits 
• Plan and coordinate the activities of the water distribution while effectively motivating employees and meeting the goals of the department
• Evaluate the performance of Pivot Trac and operating systems to make recommendations for improvements
• Attend all water district meetings and stay up-to-date on all state/county water regulations to insure we are compliant 
• Review and analyze pooling unit allocation with consulting firm for any possible changes to pooling units to optimize irrigation water resources

This is a full time, year round position located in Dalhart, TX so applicant must be from the area or willing to relocate.
